SC SEMBENELLI CONSULTING s.r.l. has acquired advanced experience in modern roads and motorways design and construction supervision. Design experience in earthworks and geotechnical projects and management capabilities of large civil works gained in more than 30 years of professional activity is a main asset of the staff of SC-SEMBENELLI CONSULTING s.r.l. This extends to urban transportation systems and to other fields of transportation engineering.

In 1987 PIERO SEMBENELLI CONSULTANT, later incorporated in SC SEMBENELLI CONSULTING s.r.l., was entrusted with the construction supervision and contract administration of the widening of the Italian A4 Motorway Torino-Venezia, in the Bergamo-Brescia section. Two years later the assignment was extended to the Milano-Piacenza section of A1, "Autostrada del Sole" Motorway. At that time these highways were carrying an average traffic flow of 90.000 vehicles every day up to maximum flow of 150.000 v/d during summertime.

Such figures are possibly among the highest in Europe. The traffic was increasing at the rate of 4-6% per year. The upgrading from 4 to 6 lanes increased the general capacity of the Italian road network and removed two bottlenecks on important international throughways.

From 1993 to date SC SEMBENELLI CONSULTING s.r.l. .has been involved in the design of motorways and light rapid transit systems. This experience has made SC aware of the importance of environmental impact mitigation, of the need for improvement of security measures for motorway users, and of the interface with local infrastructures in areas crossed by a main artery.

SC is open to innovative solutions to solve specific problems, to new technologies (such as the use of modified bitumens and reinforced soil structures) and to new construction methods compatible with presence of traffic and they are usually incorporated in SC design.
